At Nature’s Point, we celebrated Matariki with warmth, togetherness, and respect for Aotearoa’s rich cultures. Guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi—partnership, participation, and protection—we created a meaningful experience for all tamariki. The celebration fostered biculturalism, acknowledging Māori traditions and values at the heart of Matariki. Tamariki brought vegetables from home and participated in preparing a delicious friendship soup. They worked together—washing, peeling, and chopping—before our kaiako Nur cooked the hearty soup, filling the centre with warmth and aroha.
This hands-on activity encouraged participation and helped tamariki learn about working together, sharing, and showing respect. We talked about Matariki stars, whānau, and new beginnings, strengthening our partnerships with whānau and honouring cultural identity. The celebration deepened friendships and community connections, embodying the values of respect, inclusion, and protection. It was a special day that reflected our shared commitment to unity and honouring Te Tiriti in everyday practice.
